Mahtomedi Schools Win Safe Routes Grant

Mahtomedi Schools Win Safe Routes Grant

The Mahtomedi school district has received a grant from the Minnesota Department of Transportation to develop safe walking and biking routes to school plans for Wildwood and O.H. Anderson elementary schools and Mahtomedi Middle School.
The idea to apply for the grant was brought to the school district by MAGI members and Davis Grilley, member of the Mahtomedi Class of 2014 and recipient of the 2014 MAGI Environmental Leadership Award. MAGI members also helped prepare the grant.
The grant provides the school district with the use of a nationally recognized safe routes to school consultant hired by MnDOT. The process will include community outreach and is expected to last about one year. Carrie Cabe, the district’s new community education manager, will be managing the project for the school district.
If you are interested in helping to make it safer for kids to walk and bike to school, please let us know and we will let you know when the process gets started.
