Luigi Viggiano is 2019 scholarship winner
Mahtomedi High School senior Luigi Viggiano was named to receive the 2019 MAGI/Wildwood Lions Environmental Leadership Award at the school’s award ceremony in May.
Viggiano, who is currently studying chemical biology at the University of California, Berkeley, was presented with the $1,000 scholarship in recognition of numerous volunteer initiatives he led or was involved in.
“This year’s scholarship recipient is a proven environmental leader in his school and community,” said MAGI representative Paul Hoff in presenting the award. Among other things, Viggiano volunteered on local cleanup projects through the Boy Scouts and National Honor Society; linked MHS with the Giving Gardens nonprofit so students can produce fresh food to shared at our local food shelf; and led construction of an outdoor classroom at Wildwood Elementary School for his Boy Scout Eagle project.
