Stephanie Comfort receives 2020 Environmental Leadership Award

Congratulations to Mahtomedi High School graduating senior Stephanie Comfort, the recipient of the 2020 MAGI/ Wildwood Lions Environmental Leadership Award.  This $1,000 scholarship was established by local philanthropists Si and Vicki Ford to recognize the contributions of the students involved in making the Zephyr
Wind Project
a reality and support their continued passion for the environment after graduation.  For the past five years, the Wildwood Lions have joined MAGI in supporting this scholarship.

While in high school Stephanie demonstrated her concern about waste from single- use plastics by working with the Mahtomedi Environmental Commission to assess the feasibility of a city ordinance and by facilitating re-usable dinnerware at school events.  Stephanie is an avid outdoorswoman. For the past five summers she has participated in ever more challenging canoe adventures in the BWCAW and beyond through YMCA Camp Widjiwagan. She was due to travel by canoe to the Northwest Territories and Arctic this summer, but the trip had to be canceled because of the global pandemic. In the fall, Stephanie will attend the University of Minnesota Duluth, pursing a degree in Environmental Sciences
